SLSA Vision

The vision of the School Library Systems Association (SLSA) is to lead through innovation, collaboration, advocacy and education, impacting student achievement across the state.

SLSA Mission

The mission of the School Library Systems Association (SLSA) is to provide support to New York State School Library System Directors by promoting innovative school library media programs and professional growth through mentoring, networking opportunities, advocacy, professional development and consortium pricing. SLSA elevates the impact of school libraries on student achievement by identifying the qualities of excellent library programs and fostering best practices among school librarians -- the teaching of information and critical thinking skills, integrated use of technology for learning, enhanced instructional design, and collection development aligned with school priorities.

    SLSA Beliefs

We believe in access and equality. We believe that the School Library Systems Association must play a leadership role.  We believe that School Library Systems affect and change the quality of school library media centers. We believe that school library media specialists and School Library System directors embrace change. We believe that school library media centers:

    • must be the focal point for teaching information skills
    • are service oriented
    • are integral to schools
    • insure equity of access to information
